Les Descendants de Jean Ouimet, Inc.
We are Les Descendants de Jean Ouimet, Inc., a family association dedicated to the
collection, preservation and dissemination of Ouimet history. All the Ouimet's
(in all the above 32 spellings) that we have identified so far, are descended from
the original immigrant who came from France to Canada in 1659. Jean's name was changed
when he arrived in Canada. This name is singular to Jean; there are no inhabitants in
France with this name unless they came originally from Canada. We are still looking in
France for ancestors. So if you have ever met a Ouimet/Ouimette/Wemet/Wimet and wondered
if you were related, the answer is yes!
Our history, since 1659, has been filled with prominence; we have a Ouimet ancestor,
Ouilmette, who was the original settler of Chicago; we have had a Prime Minister of
Québec, several Ouimets were key in the establishment of present day Canada; a Colonel
in the RCMP who led the force against a Métis (led by Louis Riel) uprising and has a
Canadian canyon named for him; the first movie theater in North America was established
by Ernest Ouimet and called the Ouimetoscope; and of course we have Francis Ouimet, the
Babe Ruth of the golf world. All cousins!
Our archival database has now reached more than 32,000 names; Ouimets, spouses, and spousal parents.
We are always interested in adding to our data and providing other Ouimets with their
ancestral heritage. We may already have you in our database; we undoubtedly have some of your family.
We would like your help in adding your family to our data and locating your ancestral line.
The chances are good that with what you can provide from memory, we can find your ancestors
in our records. What we propose is an exchange of information.
If you are interested in
learning more of your family history, simply provide us with what you know of your family
concerning the list of questions below. Please, send your answers by email

We recognize that in this day and age, people are naturally skeptical, but this is not a scam;
we are a legitimate genealogical association of Ouimet descendants. Our
non-profit association is duly registered in the Enterprise registrar of the
province of Québec, under the corporate name "Les Descendants de Jean Ouimet
Inc.". We do this service for
Ouimet descendants free of charge as part of our charter. We can provide the names of other
Ouimet's in your area as references if needed.
